What is ¡Más Fresco! Plus?

The University of California San Diego is expanding the existing ¡Más Fresco! More Fresh Nutrition Incentive program. The expanded program, known as ¡Más Fresco! Plus, provides community members who are experiencing health disparities, including food insecurity and diet-related chronic disease, with a Foodsmart Foodcard. The Foodsmart Foodcard is a special debit card that can be used at participating grocery stores across San Diego County to purchase healthy foods, including fresh fruits and vegetables. Each month, for 12 months, $50 will be added to your Foodsmart Foodcard.

To reach out to community members across San Diego County, we are partnering with community-based organizations to help us promote ¡Más Fresco! Plus.

This program is part of a University of California San Diego research study that aims to learn how nutrition incentives provided through ¡Más Fresco! Plus affect access to healthy foods, and how they help people consume more fruits and vegetables for better health.
